Parrots 0.5K – Finally, a Race for the Rest of Us
Come for the 0.5K Run, Stay for the Couch Potato Races, and Block Party!
Saturday June 15, 2024 3pm-6pm at Madison Town Center, Madison, AL

Okay, it’s not really a race, it’s a fun run, jog or walk. Upon registering, participants will receive a race bib with number just like a real 5K but we’re only doing a 0.5K, which is about 600 yards! Participants are encouraged to embrace the laid-back island lifestyle and enjoy the journey with your friends, pets, and family!
All registered “runners” will receive:
- Oval Euro-style 0.5K sticker that you can attach to the rear window of your car to show everyone that a true athlete is behind the wheel
- T-shirt, of course. Register by May 26th to guarantee your shirt size!
- Participation “medal” (everyone gets recognized for their achievement at this event)
- Race Bib that serves as your entry to Door Prizes
TOP 10 Things You Should Know about the Parrots 0.5K!
1. Registration
- EARLY SIGN UP DISCOUNTS: $25 per adult (18+) entry before midnight on Sunday May 5, 2024
- $35 per entry from May 6, 2024 through midnight of June 14, 2024
- $50 for Day of Event Signup
- Participants will receive a $20 refund if they refer 5 others.
- Event held rain or shine. No refunds.
2. FREE T-shirt Offer & Deadline
- Must register by midnight on Friday, May 26, 2024 to insure a Free T-shirt offer.
- After this date, T-shirt will be available for pickup for paid participants on a, first come first serve basis while supplies last
3. Great Door Prizes & Grand Prize!
- Each registered participant will receive a numbered Race Bib that will make them eligible for some great door prizes and a chance to win the grand prize!
- Check out our GRAND PRIZE!
- Door Prize Winners will be announced throughout the event
- Must be present to win
4. Kids and Dogs are welcome to attend for FREE!
- Kids and dogs do not receive a race bib.
- Pets welcome but must be on a leash at all times and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pet… and kid!.
5. Island/Beach Costumes are Strongly Encouraged!
- Tropical Beach/ Island /Jimmy-Buffet-Concert-Like attire is more than appropriate!
6. Service Above Self
- All net proceeds go to the community service projects of your Rotary Club of Madison!

8. Percentage of Restaurant Sales to Support Madison Rotary Foundation
- The local restaurants are donating a portion of their sales for the day to our Madison Rotary Foundation (501c3)
- So please please grab a meal at Taco Mama, Moe’s or SaZa and help the cause and get a great meal!
9. The 0.5k Run venue in Town Madison is also an Entertainment District!
- The entire area were we are holding the 0.5K and the CP Races is a Madison City ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT!
- Ask your local beverage vendor for a to-go cup and enjoy the event!
- Beverages are allowed on the course as long as it is in line with Entertainment District rules

You get to choose your Grand Prize from these three options, based on eligibility.

How the Grand Prize will be Awarded?
Hockey Stick Putt Off!
Well… I’m glad you asked. This is how it will go down.
- You must be present to win, so be sure stick around for the fun!
- First, we will draw 3 bib numbers at random from all the numbers of the paid registered 0.5k participant. Once we have found 3 people from the random drawing, we move on the next step.
- These three people will be competing for the Grand Prize in the “Hockey Stick Putt Off”! The winner of the Putt off will be the winner of the Grand Prize. The official rules will be presented to the competitors just before the Putt Off

Rotary Couch Potato Race
Welcome to the quirkiest, craziest, and possibly the most comfortable race you’ll ever experience – the Couch Potato 0.5K Race! Strap on your running shoes, or maybe just bring your slippers, and join us for a leisurely jaunt to support a great cause. Compete for speed, or style, as we transform the mundane into the magnificent, all in the name of charity. So, dust off your favorite old couch, deck it out in your wildest decorations, and let’s race in comfort!
Couch Potato Race Prizes
- 1st Place $1,000
- 2nd Place $300
- 3rd Place $200
- An awesome Best Team Theme Trophy will also be awarded for the most creative and awesomely designed/decorated couch and team.
Couch Potato Race Rules
- Limit to Four Person Team (3 pushers, 1 driver/rider).
- Driver Must Wear Helmet (i.e. Bike, Football, etc., your
call) - Couch Must Be Human Powered (non-motorized)
- Couch Must Have Started Life as a Couch
- At least 1 rider must be on the couch at all times.
- There will be three heats of three teams per heat – winner of each heat advances to a Championship Race. Course is 0.5K route (approx. 600 yards) and includes two left hand turns.
- Good sportsmanship is essential – no pushing, shoving, or cutting corners (literally).
- Costumes and team themes are encouraged but not required.
