Our first annual Volksmarch was more than just a success, it was fun, entertaining, and a special day in our town’s history.
Not only did folks come from all corners to walk the 5K through downtown Madison, but we also had the support of the Girl Scouts, the Jr. ROTC, local businesses, and historians. As the walk progressed through Madison’s Cemetery, a Girl Scouts dressed in period costumes told the stories of Madison’s early families buried in the cemetery. They did a wonderful job and I think we all learned a lot!
No one knows more about Madison’s history than John Rankin, historian of the Madison Station Historical Preservation Society.
John has been a friend of our Rotary club for many years and provided the historical scripts used by the Volksmarch enactors. John is pictured above (r.) with our club President, Tim Stone.
